BANANA
These photographs are part of a process of accompaniment of the ASTAC organization, serving as a key tool in their legal and political actions. Their main objective is to denounce the structural violence exercised by banana companies, which manifests itself in precarious working conditions, exploitation and abuses against workers. In addition, the images make visible the serious health impacts derived from exposure to toxic agrochemicals, affecting not only the workers, but also their families and surrounding communities. Through this record, we seek to expose the consequences of the banana extractivist model, which prioritizes profits over people's lives and well-being, reinforcing the urgency of changes in labor and environmental policies.
The photographic material has been fundamental in supporting Astag's demands, providing compelling evidence in legal processes and advocacy campaigns. By documenting injustices, the struggle for decent labor rights, access to health care and environmental protection is strengthened. These images seek not only to raise awareness, but also to mobilize society and authorities to demand corporate accountability and reforms that guarantee fair conditions for banana workers. The dissemination of these realities is a crucial step towards social transformation and the defense of territories against the power of large agribusiness corporations.
